Astrid Kirchherr is a German born photographer best known for her early photographs of The Beatles. She was briefly engaged to Stuart Sutcliffe, painter and close friend of John Lennon.
This rare photogravure print (not to be confused with a giclee or light jet print) is a montage of all four Beatles and was produced and used for the cover artwork Hamburg Days – The Untold Story published by Genesis Publications in 1999.
As is tradition, the printer who created this photogravure, has signed and dated the print on the verso.

The photogravure process is an exceptionally difficult and skilful process which uses a copper plate etched in an acid bath to create an image. The copper plate is then coated in ink and run through a traditional hand press. This highly skilled six stage process creates a stunning artwork which has a stability that lasts for centuries. Photogravures are also revered for their beautiful tonal qualities.
